Dark Yellow Dot presents
Unpublished Voices By artist Joke Valerie Amusan Dark Yellow Dot is about sharing and making space for new artists and creative beginners. Dark Yellow Dot creates opportunities for the newbies, the artists who are just starting out, by collaborating with organisations that care about bringing real artists into real spaces, making art accessible to real people. darkyellowdot.com @darkyellowdot Joke Valerie Amusan Joke Valerie Amusan is a 21-year-old German-born Nigerian artist who lives in London. She is the author of the blog She Stands Firm, which celebrates women of colour and champion the voices of women who aren’t heard. Her art is concerned with challenging the often negative portrayal black women in the media. Employing materials such as hessian and wool, she explores the power of words and objects. Her sculptural pieces are strategically placed to ask questions and start conversations. Her work demands not only to be seen and heard, but felt. Amusan has exhibited in London and Reading. shestandsfirm.wordpress.com @jkevlre |
